[Also in Division A5] The invention comprises a substituted 2,4- dinitrophenylalkane sulponate of the formula in which R 1 is an alkyl group and R 2 is a secondary or tertiary butyl group. This compound may be prepared by reacting a substituted 2,4- dinitrophenol of the formula in which R 2 is a secondary or tertiary butyl group with a compound of the formula R 1 -SO 2 -Cl, wherein R 1 is an alkyl group, in the presence of an alkali metal hydroxide or a tertiary amine, the reaction being conducted in an organic solvent. The following compounds are specified: 2,4-dinitro-6-t.-butylphenylmethanesulphonate; 2,4 - dinitro - 6 - sec - butylphenylmethanesulphonate; 2,4 - dinitro - 6 - t.- butylphenylethanesulphonate; 2,4 - dinitro - 6- t. - butylphenylpropanesulphonate; 2,4 - dinitro - 6 - t. - butylphenylisopropanesulphonate; 2,4 - dinitro - 6 - sec - butylphenylethanesulphonate; 2,4 - dinitro - 6 - sec - butylphenylpropanesulphonate; and 2,4 - dinitro - 6 - secbutylphenylisopropanesulphonate. |
