PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ear type clinical thermometer which starts body temperature measurement when it is in an appropriate measurement state. SOLUTION: The ear type clinical thermometer includes a temperature detection element 301 and an infrared ray detection element 302, measures a body temperature, and is provided with a probe 103 and a body part 102 for supporting the probe 103 so as to operate it along an insertion direction. The body part 102 is provided with a support member 202a for supporting the temperature detection element 301 and the infrared ray detection element 302 so as to dispose them near an opening at the distal end of the probe 103, and detection means (205, 206) for detecting the operation by the result of pressing of the probe 103 to the side wall of an ear cavity after insertion into the ear cavity when the probe 103 is operated along the insertion direction and a part of the support member 202a is projected from the distal end of the probe 103, and the measurement is started with the detection of the operation as a trigger.
