PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technology for correcting an influence on the measurement of rotation and a skew when measuring the length of a recording material carried in a rotating and skewed state.

SOLUTION: When paper is carried while rotating at an angleθ1 from a normal state, a measuring error in the paper length by an influence of the rotation is restrained by calculating LAcosθ1 by using the paper length LA determined from the rotation of a lengthy measuring roll 102. When the paper is carried while being skewed at an angleθ2 from the normal state, the measuring error in the paper length by the influence of the skew is restrained by calculating LBcosθ2 by using the paper length LB determined from the rotation of the length measuring roll 102.
