PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a boiling water reactor that reduces the difference between the water level at a position of the central axis of a reactor pressure vessel and that on the periphery of it by suppressing the lowering of the strength of a shroud head. SOLUTION: In the boiling water reactor 1, steam separators 6 are laid out inside a cylindrical steam dryer skirt 19 above the shroud head 5 in the reactor pressure vessel 2. Stand pipes 7 of the steam separators 6 are mounted on the shroud head 5. The cross-sectional shapes of the stand pipes 7 are streamline, and pre-heads 16, the tips of the streamlines, are laid out toward the central axis of the reactor pressure vessel 2. The cross-sectional shapes of the stand pipes 7 are streamlined and the tips of the streamlines are oriented to the central axis of the reactor pressure vessel 2, so that the geometrical loss of the stand pipes 7 can be reduced, thereby reducing the difference between the water level 24 in the vicinity of the central axis of the reactor pressure vessel 2 and the water level 25 at a position on the inside surface of the steam dryer skirt 19.
