Disclosed is a cellular communication system for reducing the effects of radiation emitted from cellular phone antennas. The system includes one or more short-range phone interface units (10), each with: a transceiver (22) for short range wireless communication with a hub device; a microphone (12); an earphone (14); a display (16); a keypad (18); and first circuitry and software for controlling the hardware and to establish a short-range wireless communication channel to the hub device. The system further includes a hub device (30), the hub device having a transceiver (32) for establishing short-range wireless communication with the phone interface unit; an antenna (34)for transmitting and receiving high power RF communication signals representing desired content to and from a cellular base station (50); one or more ports (58, 59) for receiving content from external resources; a user identification module; a memory for storing valuable information for the user; and second circuitry and appropriate software for allowing concurrent communication. The communication can be: between users via the short-range wireless communication channel; between each of the users and the base station by establishing a communication channel between the cellular hub and the base station and a short-range wireless communication channel to the phone interface units; or between each of the users and the external resources via the short-range wireless communication channel. |
