Membrane separation assemblies for liquid or gas separation

An assembly 10 for use in the separation of a liquid or gaseous fluid feed comprises an elongated housing 12 with opposed first 14 and second ends 16, a fluid feed inlet 24, and residual stream 26 and permeate stream 30 outlets. The housing 12 contains several membrane separation elements 34 that form a membrane separation element linear string 32 with opposed first and second ends. The membrane separation linear string 32 defines a linear permeate passage tube 44 with opposed first 46 and second 50 ends. The housing further contains a permeate adaptor 54 joined to the first end 46 of the linear permeate passage tube 44. The permeate adaptor 54 has a body that extends between its face and its back. The face of the permeate adaptor has a receiving opening that receives the first end 46 of the linear permeate passage tube 44. A permeate passage that extends through the body of the adaptor includes a number of permeate discharge openings in fluid communication with the permeate stream outlet 30. The permeate passage places the receiving opening in fluid communication with the permeate discharge openings.
