PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus which obtains an optimum destaticization state in accordance with the state of recording material while using a contact type destaticizing member. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus 1 includes a transfer roller 10 for transferring a toner image formed on an image carrier 6 to the recording material P, and the contact type destaticizing member 50 arranged on a conveyance downstream side from the transfer roller 10. The contact type destaticizing member 50 arranged on the conveyance downstream side from the transfer roller 10 is supported so that it can change its attitude between a contact attitude that it comes into contact with the recording material P and a retreat attitude that it is separated from the recording material P.
