A lithium battery using iron disulphide with a pH raising additive to raise the mixture to a pH between 4 to 14

An electrochemical battery cell is disclosed. The battery has a housing which contains a negative electrode comprising lithium, a positive electrode comprising a mixture of iron disulfide and a pH raising additive compound and a non-aqueous electrolyte mixture comprising at least one salt dissolved in a solvent disposed within the housing. The pH raising additive compound is present in an effective amount to provide the electrode mixture with a calculated pH of 4.0 to 14.0 in order to hinder or prevent dendrite formation which might cause an internal short circuit.
