PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a wheel speed detecting apparatus capable of determining whether there is any failure in an output signal of a sensor regardless of acceleration or deceleration, even when a high-signal time and a low-signal time fluctuate steadily. SOLUTION: The wheel speed detecting apparatus includes a computing section computing a wheel rotating speed based on the output signal. The computing section contains a comparing section comparing a length of two high signals and/or a length of two low signals out of binarized output signals, and a failure decision section for determining the failure of the output signal based on comparison results by the comparing section.
