The method involves comparing the estimated battery characteristics with the actual battery characteristics. The parameter values extracted from the value memory are provided with a correction value in each case on deviation of the estimated battery characteristics from the actual battery characteristics. The actual battery characteristics coincide with the estimated battery characteristics on the basis of the corrected parameter values.
