Disclosed are a method of washing a paint cartridge for an electrostatic coating apparatus and a paint bag capable of reducing the amount of paint to be discarded when the inside of the paint cartridge is washed for color change. During washing of a paint cartridge (10), air and washing solution are supplied to a squashed paint bag (12) through an upper end opening (12b) thereof so that the paint bag (12) is expanded. When the paint bag (12) is expanded, operating liquid inside an enclosed space (operating liquid chamber; 14) of the paint cartridge (10) is collected through an operating liquid discharge path (26) inside the cartridge. In the next step, the operating liquid is supplied to the operating liquid chamber (enclosed space; 14) of the paint cartridge (10) through an operating liquid supply path (22) inside the cartridge so that the paint bag (12) is squashed, and drives the washing solution to be discharged from a lower end opening (12c) of the paint bag (12).
