PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce occurrence of out-of-focus conditions after focusing without delay when a short-distance subject is photographed. SOLUTION: This imaging device C has: a magnification information acquiring means 5 for acquiring information related to the photographing magnification of a photographing optical system; and a controlling means 5 for performing focus control of the photographing optical system. The controlling means has: first focus control mode where focus control is not repeatedly performed after a focusing state of the photographing optical system is acquired by focus control; and second focus control mode where focus control is repeatedly performed also after a focusing state of the photographing optical system is acquired by focus control. The controlling means sets the first focus control mode when the information related to the photographing magnification corresponds to a photographing magnification smaller than a predetermined value, and also sets the second focus control mode when the information related to the photographing magnification corresponds to a photographing magnification larger than the predetermined value.
