PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a battery system which controls a plurality of battery cells constituting a battery pack. SOLUTION: The battery system includes a plurality of battery cell control units connected to one another; each battery cell control unit has an operation-mode switching portion a parameter-related data generating portion, a parameter data transmitting portion, a parameter data receiving portion, a minimum value specifying portion, a switching command data transmitting portion, and a switching command data receiving portion. When the switching command data transmitting portion transmits a switching command to another battery cell control unit during an operation in the master mode, the operation mode switching portion switches the operation mode of own unit from the master mode to the slave mode. When the switching command data receiving portion receives a switching command from another battery cell control unit during operation in a slave mode, the operation-mode switching portion switches the operation mode of own unit from the slave mode to the master mode.
