[Also in Division E2] A motor vehicle comprises a hood or closable panel operated by an electric motor, a manually operated catch for fastening the panel in one of its extreme positions which catch prevents operation of the motor unless fully released. The hood is secured in the closed position by two catches 2. Each catch comprises a pivoted loop insulated from the hood frame and engageable with a lug secured to the windscreen frame. The loops are electrically connected in parallel and in series with a relay 19 which is connected to a battery 20 and through a switch 23 to the electric motor 3, the switch being closed and the motor operative when the relay is deenergized by releasing both catches. The direction of the motor for opening or closing the hood is controlled by a switch 7. The motor 3 drives a pump to withdraw or supply hydraulic fluid from or to two cylinders connected by a linkage to the hood to open or close the hood. In another embodiment the relay is connected to a contact of the switch 7, whereby the relay is only energized to break the motor circuit when the switch 7 is closed and the catches are not completely released.</p> |
