[Also in Division F2] A jointing member for a tubular space structure comprises a pair of clamping elements 1, 2 which .between them define sockets for the reception of the ends of tubular members 6 to .be connected with the axes of the tubular members in a common plane, and means e.g. a bolt 3 for clamping the elements into gripping engagement with a respective tubular member, the opposing sides of each socket being formed with a transverse recess 15 or projection for cooperation with a complementary configuration 12 on the end of the tubular member 6 the jointing member being so shaped that on one side thereof, no part of the jointing member projects appreciably in a direction transverse to the common plane beyond a plane through the extreme points of the surfaces of the members to be joined. As shown in which alternating recesses 15 and projections 16 are provided in each socket which cooperate with complementary projections 12 and recesses 13 on the member 6, the projections and recesses on the member 6 are formed on an end portion 8 which is welded to the member 6. Sealing members 26 are fitted into the spaces between the elements 1 and ,2, and O-rings 27 are fitted between the portion 8 and each socket end. Lugs 31 may be provided on the element 1 for attachment thereto of bracing members 30. The jointing member may be formed to provide four sockets as shown, one or more of which may be blanked off by plugs (50) Figs. 8 and 9 (not shown) to provide a right angled or T connection, or the member may be formed to provide only two sockets at right angles. The joints may be used in the construction of a space frame, Fig. 12 (not shown). |
