摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize stable production of a highly efficient fluorescent substance, by clarifying an amount of Eu<SP>+2</SP>necessary in the fluorescent substance for realizing the fluorescent substance having high light-emitting efficiency by excitation light in a near-ultraviolet region. <P>SOLUTION: This fluorescent substance comprises an europium-manganese-coactivated alkaline earth metal silicate salt: (Ba<SB>a</SB>Ca<SB>b</SB>Sr<SB>c</SB>Mg<SB>d</SB>Eu<SB>x</SB>Mn<SB>y</SB>)SiO<SB>4</SB>, wherein coefficients a, b, c, d, x, and y satisfy: a+b+c+d+x+y=2; 0<a<2; 0<b<2; 0&le;c<0.5; 0&le;d<0.5; 0<x&le;0.5; and 0<y&le;0.5 and not less than 50% of total Eu ions are Eu<SP>+2</SP>ions. A method for producing the fluorescent substance comprises calcining a mixture of raw material compounds in a reducing atmosphere in the coexistence of carbon.
