A tubular metal fence post 2 which has a bayonet connection with a pedestal receives horizontal tubular rail members 3 through apertures 2a, the angle between the rib of the bayonet fitting on the lower end of the post and the position of the apertures 2a being such that when the horizontal members are secured by rods 5 passing through apertures 3a and 3b therein, the bayonet connection cannot be released. The rods 5 are inserted through aperture 2b in the top of the post, which aperture is closed by a rod 4. The rod 4 can be removed by insertion of a tool through aperture 2c. In a road signal post (Fig. 7) the locking of the bayonet connection is achieved by an asciallay displaceable cylindrical member 10. Carried by slots 10a on the bayonet rib 9 at the lower end of the post. The cylinder 10 has a rib 11 at its lower end' which engages a slot 12a in member 12 of base plate 13 when the post is rotated to a position where the bayonet rib 9 is at 90‹ to the bayonet slot 7a. A tool is introduced through slots 2d, and 10b to raise the cylinder to allow the post to be rotated for removal. The posts are formed with a weakened section 6 just above the pedestal. |
