[Also in Division C5] A process of treating a reaction mixture resulting from the production of phenol by oxidation of cumene and decomposition and dehydration of the reaction product and including phenol, acetone,α-methyl styrene and acetophenone comprises hydrogenating said reaction mixture by contacting said mixture with hydrogen in the presence of a nickelmolybdenum or palladium hydrogenation catalyst and subjecting the hydrogenation reaction mixture to a series of separations to separate cumene and phenol. Suitable conditions to convert the acetone to isopropanol may be employed if desired. Examples are furnished.
