An osteotomy spline comprises a shaft 4 and a blade 2 sharpened at its end, transverse screw holes 6, 13 being provided in both the shaft and the blade for receiving screws 7, 14, 15, 16 to engage bone on one side of the spline. The sharp end of the blade is of V-section, the cross-section of the blade gradually becoming isoscelestriangular as the centre section 3 of the spline is approached. The centre section 3 is of rectangular section and has two oppositely facing inclined faces 8, 9 provided with tappings 11, 12 for introducer handles. In use, the blade is driven into the cancellous bone of a severed femoral head so that. when the femoral head is replaced in a desired position, the shaft 4 lies along the shaft of the femur. A screw 7 is passed into the femoral head and through a hole 6 in the blade. A compression clamp (19) is fitted between a tapping 17 in the endmost screw hole 13 and a screw 23 driven into the femur and is operated to draw the severed parts of the femur together. Screws 14. 15, 16 passed through holes 13 fix the shaft 4 to the bone. A bracket (24. Fig. 3) having guide bushes (26, 27) is fixed to the shaft 4 for guiding an awl in drilling screw securing holes in the femoral head and shaft. |
