<p>1306502 Transparent rigid laminates TRIPLEX SAFETY GLASS CO Ltd 26 Jan 1970 [24 Jan 1969] 4102/69 Heading B5N A transparent laminate, wherein a glass sheet is bonded to a rigid sheet (e.g. glass, polymethylmethacrylate, polyarylcarbonate, allyl diglycol carbonate) by a plastics interlayer, is made by applying heat and pressure to the assembled sheets and cooling with a liquid of thermal conductivity lower than water and which gives substantially no reduction in the interlayer transparency. The liquid is preferably ethylene glycol, propylene glycol or glycerol, optionally mixed with water, and the preferred thermal conductivity range is 2-4 Î 10<SP>-3</SP> joule/cm. sec. ‹C. The assembly may be subjected to pressure by evacuation of air between the sheets and heated to 100-150‹ C. in an oven or autoclave. The coolant may be applied by spraying or immersion at 15-35‹ C., and the marginal parts of the panel may be left untreated. The sheets may be curved or flat. The bonding interlayer may be an ethylene copolymer.</p> |
