1,215,674. Nailing machines. FMC CORP. 29 April, 1969 [27 May, 1968], No. 21765/69. Heading B4C. [Also in Division B8] A multiple head nailing machine used in the manufacture of pallets (see Heading B8H) comprises a plurality of nail holding chucks 62 laterally adjustable between a pair of side frame members 60 and fed with nails through tubes 64. The nails are forced from the chucks 62 by a corresponding number of punches 69 mounted on a driving head 66 vertically movable along guides 68 by an arm 70 eccentrically mounted on a drive wheel 72. The chucks are initially clear of the pallet but move downwards into engagement therewith upon the downward movement of the head 66. The pallet is moved through the nailing machine in a jig 21 and is raised from the jig by the inclined sides of an anvil 79 upon which it rests during the nailing operation. Lugs (140a), (140b), (140c), Fig. 5 (not shown), on the jig 21 control the actuation of the nailing machine. The pallet on leaving the nailing machine is fed by an endless conveyer (25), Fig. 1 (not shown), to a turn over device (26) from which the pallet is fed by conveyers 27, 100 to a second nailing machine (30) of similar construction to the first machine. |
