Heading F2B. A gasket for the cylinder head of an I.C. engine comprises a metallic binding 7 enclosing soft parts of the gasket surrounding an aperture 6, and a reinforcing or sealing ring 8 located within the aperture by the metallic binding, the ring being split as at 12 and closed with a negligible gap at the split. The ring 8 may be made of a non-ferrous alloy and provided with sealing ridges 10, a curved or ridged outer periphery and a split 12 which may be straight as shown or of V or arcuate form. The soft part 2 of the gasket may be provided with reinforcing inlays. The ring 8 may be made by stretching wire on to a mandrel (13), Fig. 5 (not shown), by means of a stretching roller (14) and then cutting adjacent a groove (18) in the mandrel. The finished ring 8 is placed in the aperture 6 with a binding 7 of L-section and the gap at the split is closed by the positive engagement of the binding as it is finally pressed into its U-form.
