1306529 Lubricants; fuels LUBRIZOL CORP 11 May 1970 [12 May 1969 19 Feb 1970] 22584/70 Headings C5F and C5G [Also in Division C3] Lubricant and fuel compositions comprise additives prepared by reacting (a) a carboxylic acid acylating agent having at least 30 aliphatic carbon atoms exclusive of carboxyl groups, (b) at least 0À001 equivalent thereof of a polyoxyalkylene alcohol demulsifier for aqueous emulsions and optionally (c) at least 0À01 equivalent thereof of a polyhydric alcohol, amine or basic alkaline earth metal compound. Specified lubricants include mineral oils, animal oils, vegetable oils, synthetic oils such as polyolefins, alkylbenzenes, polyphenyls, polyalkylene oxides, esters, silicates, siloxanes, phosphates and polymeric tetrahydrofurans. Specified fuels are diesel and aviation fuels, gasoline, kerosene and fuel oils. Extensive lists of suitable lubricants and fuels, and of conventional additives which may also be present, are given. Examples describe additives prepared by reacting (1) polyisobutenyl methacrylic acid with glycerol/propylene oxide/ethylene oxide condensate, together with (12) barium hydroxide; (2) polyisobutenyl acrylic acid with glycerol/ propylene oxide/ethylene oxide condensate and trimethylol ethane; (16) polyhexenyl 2-pentene - 1,3,5 - tricarboxylic acid with propylene glycol, triethanolamine and dinonylphenol/ propylene oxide/ethylene oxide condensate; and polyisobutenyl succinic acid with glycerol/ propylene oxide/ethylene oxide condensates and (3) trimethylol propane, (5 and 6) pentaerythritol, (7) polyethylene polyamines, (11 and 17) pentaerythritol and polyethylene polyamines and (15) mannitol; with (4) propylene oxide/ ethylene oxide condensates and optionally (8 and 19) polyethylene polyamines, (9) pentaerythritol and polyethylene polyamines, (10) pentaerythritol, glycerol/propylene oxide/ ethylene oxide condensate and polyethylene polyamine, (13) pentaerythritol and calcium hydroxide, (14) sorbitol and aminoethyl piperazine and (20) pentaerythritol; with (18) tetrakis (hydroxypropyl) ethylenediamine/propylene oxide/ethylene oxide condensates, pentaerythritol and trimethylolpropane; and with (21) polyol, pentaerythritol and polyethylene polyamines; and compositions comprising mineral lubricating oils and (A) additive (1); (B) additive (3), polyisobutenyl succinimide of polyethylene polyamines and zinc di-n-octylphosphorodithioate; (C) additive (9), zinc di - isopropyl and di - n - decyl phosphorodithioates and carbonated basic barium dodecyl benzene sulphonate/octyl phenol reaction product; (D) additive (11), zinc dicyclohexyl phosphorodithioate/ethylene oxide adduct, sulphurized sperm oil, polyalkyl methacrylate and polyalkyl siloxane; and (E) additive (15), zinc n-butyl dodecyl phosphorodithioate and carbonated basic barium sperm oil/octyl phenol detergent; synthetic lubricating oil comprising polypropylene glycol diphenyl ether and (F) additive (15); fuels comprising gasoline and (G) additive (7) and (J) additive (9); diesel fuel and (H) additive (12) and kerosene and (I) additive (11). |
