Cpds. of general formula (I) R=H or Me, R1=H and R2=OH or R1 + R2=O or a ketal residue R3=Ph opt. subst. by (1-6C) alkyl, (1-6C) O-alkyl, (1-6C)S-alkyl, NH2, COMe, hal, NHacyl, CON(acyl)2, alkoxybenzamidoethyl, or halobenzamidoethyl, or an N-bonded (5-6 membered) heterocyclic residue Oral hypoglycaemics. To 1-(p-toluenesulphonyl)-3-(3-endo-D-camphoryl)-thiourea (4.8 g) in Me2CO (30 ml) at 5 deg., NaNO2 (1.1 g) in H2O (5 ml) was added dropwise followed by 5N-AcOH (8.3 ml). The soln. was stirred 2 hr. at 5 deg., evapd. in vac., washed well with H2O, dissolved in MeOH, decolourised, H2O added to crystallise, and recryst. from EtOH, giving I, m.p 192-4 deg. |
