A meter system 18 for electrical machinery, such as motor 23, constituting the load of a generator 10 comprises a first electrolytic coulometer 31 through which a current proportional to the load current flows, a second electrolytic coulometer 44 through which a current proportional to the load voltage flows, and a third electrolytic coulometer 46 through which a constant current flows only whilst the generator is under load. The three coulometers thus indicate the load ampere-hours and volt-hours and the time for which the generator is under load respectively, and from these quantities the average current and voltage and total energy consumed by the load, may be deduced. As shown the coulometer 31 is connected in series with a limiting resistor 33 across a shunt 32. Coulometer 44 is similarly connected to a voltagedividing range-determining network 41, 42. Coulometer 46 may be supplied via voltage regulator 47, 50 from an auxiliary generator 25 driven by the machinery 23. Alternatively the machinery may operate a centrifugal switch which connects a source to terminals 28, 29 when the machine is in use. Diodes may be connected in series with each coulometer if the system is A. C. If the generator supplies several loads separate amperehour measuring coulometers 31 may be provided for each. The coulometers have mercury electrodes and potassium iodide electrolyte. |
