PURPOSE: A method for preparing a cerium carbonate-based compound, a method for preparing a cerium oxide, and a crystalline cerium oxide are provided to cost-effectively obtain the cerium carbonate-based compound by easily controlling the structure, size, and the shape of cerium carbonate-based compound crystal. CONSTITUTION: A method for preparing a cerium carbonate-based compound includes the following: Lanthanite cerium is reacted at 50 degrees Celsius or more to prepare a cerium carbonate-based compound. The cerium carbonate-based compound includes orthorhombic cerium oxycarbonate hydrate(Ce_2O(CO_3)_2·H_2O), hexagonal cerium hydroxyl carbonate(Ce(OH) ·(CO_3)), or the mixture of the same.
