1,220,273. Furnace with special atmosphere. NIPPON KOKAN K.K. 30 Oct., 1968 [11 Nov., 1967], No. 51416/68. Heading F4B. Material to be heated in a controlled atmosphere is fed to a region 5 separated from a combustion chamber 2 by a radiant heattransparent member 7. The member 7 may be reticulated or perforated, or formed of heatresistant glass. Reducing gas is fed to the region 5 and burns as it passes through the reticulated member 7 to the combustion chamber 2, into which burners 1 deliver oxidizing flames, A heat exchanger 8 in the waste gas outlet preheats the combustion air, and a damper 9 in the flue stack controls the pressure within the combustion chamber 2 and the working region 5. The member 7 which may be of wire gauze, may be coated with a catalyst to accelerate the combustion of the atmosphere gas. The reticulated member may surround material on a conveyer passing through a tubular furnace, Fig. 4 (not shown). The atmosphere within the region 5 differs from that fed into the region, but remains reducing.
|
