PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a mechanical seal device which allows a rotary ring to be compactly and easily fixed to a rotary shaft, and a fixing method of the rotary ring employed for a mechanical seal. SOLUTION: A mechanical seal device comprises a rotary ring 50 which contains an inner peripheral surface 50b formed with a stopper engaging groove therein, a fixing ring 30, a sleeve 34 which contains a rotary ring locking surface 36 fixed to the rotary shaft to lock the rotary ring and an outer peripheral surface containing a stopper accommodation groove 40 opposed to the stopper engaging groove and a through hole 42 communicating to the stopper accommodation groove, a stopper member 60 which contains a first part engaged with the stopper accommodation groove in the sleeve and a second part engaged with the stopper engaging groove in the rotary ring and has a substantially C-shaped outer shape, and a knock pin 62 which contains one end inserted into the through hole and the other end arranged in the stopper accommodation groove and brought into contact with a stopper member and supports a second part of the stopper member toward the radial outside.
