PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a display apparatus, method and program in which the readability of a caption character string viewed from a viewer is improved with respect to a summary content including a still image and the caption character string, and the display of the still image can be switched visually naturally. SOLUTION: The display apparatus includes: a caption character string extracting means for extracting a unit of a caption character string from digital broadcast contents; a video extracting means for extracting a video image for each unit of the caption character string; an image extracting means for extracting one still image from the video image based on the unit of the caption character string; a display time determining means for determining a display time of the still image, for each unit of the caption character string, in accordance with the number of characters; and a display control means for arranging the still image and the caption character string side by side in a first direction and displaying the still image while moving it in a second direction in a sliding manner as time progresses. The display control means variably controls a moving speed in the second direction, for each still image, so as to display the still image within a display center range of a display area just for the display time.
