PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a portable terminal for properly assigning a key and at least one key code corresponding to the key, regardless of the number or type of keys. SOLUTION: The portable terminal is provided with: a detection part for detecting press and release of an arbitrary key; a timer part that starts measuring time when the press of the arbitrary key is detected by the detection part; an operation type determination part for, when the detection part detects whether the arbitrary key has been released during time measurement by the timer part, or whether the arbitrary key has been released and pressed thereafter during the time measurement, determining the operation type of the arbitrary key; a key code storage part for storing a first table indicating the operation type of at least one key and the corresponding key code; a key code determination part for determining the operation type of the arbitrary key determined by the operation type determination part and the corresponding key code by referring to the first table stored in the key code storage part; and a notification part for notifying an application of the key code determined by the key code determination part.
