CYANINE DYE AND OPTICAL RECORDING MEDIUM

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical recording medium that enables high-speed and high-density recording and reproduction of optical information by short-wavelength light, such as blue laser, wherein low-to-high recording, a recording mechanism different from conventional ones allows high-density recording and reproduction of optical information, and a cyanine dye used for a recording layer thereof.

SOLUTION: The cyanine dye represented by formula in the figure is used for the recording layer of the optical recording medium including at least a substrate and the recording layer formed on the substrate.
