摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for making a heating element made from molybdenum silicide and alloys thereof, and which includes aluminum oxide on its surface. <P>SOLUTION: A material that is composed chiefly of Mo(Si<SB>1-x</SB>Al<SB>x</SB>)<SB>2</SB>and Al<SB>2</SB>O<SB>3</SB>is produced by mixing a mixture of a silicon and molybdenum compound with an aluminum compound. Both of the silicon and molybdenum compounds include Mo(Si<SB>1-y</SB>Al<SB>y</SB>)<SB>2</SB>and are mixed with one or both of an aluminum compound in the form of Al<SB>2</SB>O<SB>3</SB>or Al(OH)<SB>3</SB>and optionally the compounds SiO<SB>2</SB>, Si and MoO<SB>3</SB>, or the mixture of silicon and molybdenum compound containing MoO<SB>3</SB>and Al and Si and/or SiO<SB>2</SB>. The charged components together have a degree of purity corresponding to at least 98%.
