PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress formation of leftovers in the stepped part on the surface of a protective layer of a thermal head, and to facilitate noise reduction of the thermal head in operating a printing apparatus. SOLUTION: A first heating resistor 13a, a second heating resistor 13b, and a third heating resistor 13c are divided in the sub-scanning direction of the thermal head and are arranged in parallel to the main scanning direction on a glaze layer 12 on a substrate 11. Common electrodes 14 each having comb teeth 14b extending in a comb teeth form in the sub-scanning direction from a base 14a extending in the main scanning direction, and discrete electrodes 15 each in a comb teeth shape are arranged between the comb teeth 14b. A pair of the comb teeth parts 14b and the discrete electrode 15 between them form two heating parts 16a and 16b electrically energized to three heating resistors 13.
