<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a walking stick having excellent impact absorbing properties and excellent stability. <P>SOLUTION: A walking stick is configured in such a manner that an extendable and retractable tube 6 which is formed by fitting an outer tube 10 and an inner tube 11 together in a telescopic manner is provided to the walking stick body 2, and that a compression spring 21 and a speed-dependent damper 21 are parallelly connected within the extendable and retractable tube 6, the speed-dependent damper damping the relative sliding motion between the outer tube 10 and the inner tube 11, the compression spring pressing the extendable and retractable tube 6 in the extension direction. When the walking stick 1 makes contact with the ground, the compression spring 21 is retracted to reduce an impact transmitted to the hand and the damper 21 suppresses unwanted vibration of the extendable and retractable tube 6. As a result, the length of the walking stick 1 after the walking stick makes contact with the ground is quickly stabilized to enable the user to maintain his/her balance. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2011,JPO&INPIT |
