A sheet which has been cold reduced at least 85% is made of an alloy comprising Mg 4-5À5% and Mn 0À2-0À7%, the balance, apart from impurities, of which the maxima are:- Cr 0À2% Cu 0À2% Fe 0À4% Si 0À3% Ti 0À1% Others such as Zn 0À05% each and 0À15% total, being Al, wherein the Mg and Mn contents are so related that Mn = 1À7-0À9 (ln Mg) Œ0À15. The sheet is suitable for making easy open beer cans. The alloy may be homogenized at from 800‹ F. to its melting point (e.g. at 900‹ F. ) hot rolled (e.g. at 750‹ F.) recrystallization annealed at 600‹ F. and then cold worked at least 85%. |
