PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem wherein a fixing unit may be damaged when a print job is processed with an installed optional fixing unit. SOLUTION: A part discriminating method includes: receiving a request to print a print job from a user; determining the print job specifications; extracting identification information of parts installed in the image forming apparatus; processing the print job if the parts are the parts that have been identified for the determined print job specifications; otherwise, notifying the user of that effect; and prompting the user to select to replace the parts, to change the print job specifications, or to proceed with the print job.
