PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical writing device in which the writing widths of a plurality of beams are adjustable without incurring an increase in the scale of circuit due to an increase in the number of the light sources. SOLUTION: The optical writing device 10 having two or more light sources includes: two or more light sources which are independently driven and disposed separately in the sub scanning direction of a photoreceptor 30, wherein reaching distances of the respective beams emitted from the two or more light sources to the photoreceptor face are different; a first control unit 21 and a second control unit 22 which make the phases of timing control data of the two or more beams emitted from the two or more light sources differ by the quantities decided on the basis of the positions of the beams on the photoreceptor in a main scanning direction and the phase change quantities which are different according to the beam positions; and a modulation means which modulates the timing control data of the respective phase-controlled beams by one and the same clock.
