PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of manufacturing a cement type base material which can control occurrence of back-surface shrinkages of the cement type molding in the press molding process of press-molding a cement type molding. SOLUTION: The cement type base material is obtained by press-molding a cement type molding 1 and then curing. With respect to a test molding composed of the same material as that of the cement type molding 1, a relationship between the amount of compressions during press molding and the depth of back-surface shrinkages 4 of a test molding after the press molding is derived preliminarily, and a critical amount of compressions in which the depth of back-surface shrinkages 4 becomes equal to or smaller than a predetermined value is determined on the basis of the relationship derived. Taking the thickness of the cement type molding before press molding as T0, the thickness of the cement molding on pressing by press molding as T1 and the critical amount of compressions as Tc, the thickness T0 of the cement type molding 1 before press molding is adjusted so as to meet the relationship: T1≤T0≤T1+Tc.
