PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To predict a cause of jams to quickly respond to it; and to reduce wasteful consumption of supplies and unnecessary serviceperson call when jams occur. SOLUTION: An image forming apparatus includes: a paper feeding conveyance part 200 which feeds paper from a paper stacking part in which the paper is stacked and conveys the paper to just before a resist roller; an image transfer part 201 which transfers an image to the paper and conveys the paper to just before a fixing part; an image fixing part 202 which conveys the paper in the fixing part; and a paper jam detection part 203 which detects occurrence of paper jam on each conveyance path. The image forming apparatus is also provided with: a paper jam cause estimation part 204 which estimates a cause of paper jam when paper jam is detected by the paper jam detection part 203; and a paper jam processing part 205 which executes predetermined processing corresponding to the estimated cause of the paper jam.
