PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electronic paper display device capable of adjusting the brightness of a display element. SOLUTION: The electronic paper display device includes a lower substrate, in which a protruding pattern 20 partitioning a cell 30 is provided on one surface thereof; a display unit 40 that is disposed inside the cell 30; and an upper substrate that is laminated at the top of the protruding pattern 20 while covering the display unit 40, where the brightness is adjusted by using the display unit 40 having differences in the size, specific gravity and the quantity of charges. The display unit 40 can be constituted of electronic balls, including positively-charged particles and negatively-charged particles dispersed in a flowing liquid, that is a rotator having optical and electric anisotropy.
