The internal combustion engine (1) has an exhaust pipe (8) over which a partial flow of exhaust gas is discharged as heat flow in the surrounding. The exhaust gas is produced by the internal combustion engine. An exhaust gas recirculation line (10) is provided over which another partial flow of exhaust gas is supplied as a heat flow of a fresh gas system. The internal combustion engine also has a steam cycle including a heat exchanger (13), an expansion machine (15) and a feed pump (14) for waste heat recovery. The steam cycle is connected with a single heat flow.
