A rapid-release cover 1 is securable in the flanged mouth 6 of a pressure vessel by a plurality of pairs of semi-cylindrical locking elements 9 and 10, one of each pair of locking elements being located in a semi-cylindrical pocket 7 in the cover and the other being located in a confronting pocket 8 in the flanged mouth, each pair of locking members being rotated about a common axis parallel to the vessel by a respective pivot pin 13 secured to one or other of the locking elements to lock the cover in position. Screws 11 and 12 are provided to lock the locking elements prior to insertion of the cover in the vessel and to subsequently re-lock the locking elements once they have been turned through 90 degrees to hold them in their locking position. Sealing is effected by a pressure ring 14 which is drawn against the base of a recess by screws 15, Fig. 6 (not shown), the conical inner and outer surfaces of the ring compressing metal wire sealing rings.</p> |
