<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technology of reliably detecting that an article displayed on a shelf is picked out from the shelf by reading an RF tag using radio waves of a UHF band. <P>SOLUTION: The article management system includes an antenna for transmitting and receiving radio waves for radio communication with an RF tag attached to a management object, and a shield which shields the radio waves emitted from the antenna such that the radio waves do not reach a predetermined arrangement area where the management object can be put in and out.
