PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accurately detect even fine cracks occurring on a coarse surface by extracting cracks and reducing the effects of noise without differentiating a gray-scale image of a workpiece. SOLUTION: A binarization means 11 generates a binary image from a gray-scale image acquired by imaging the object W to be inspected by an imaging device 2. A candidate selection means 13 extracts a connected component having a narrow shape from among connected components of dark pixels within the binary image as a crack candidate region. A clustering means 14 classifies the crack candidate region extracted by the candidate selection means through the use of the similarity of the gradient of a principal axis of inertia. A connection processing means 15 evaluates the connectivity of crack candidate regions for every classification classified by the clustering means. A decision means 16 determines the quality of the object W to be inspected through the use of the sum of the lengths of crack candidate regions determined to belong to one crack by the connection processing means 15.
