PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a valve timing control device preventing occurrence of a positional shift by certainly positioning a lock piston and a lock hole in a circumferential direction, and also adjusting rotational balance. SOLUTION: A recessed portion 33 formed in a peripheral edge positioned in the padding portion 18 of a housing body 11 is composed of a wide first recessed groove 33a formed in the side of an outer periphery and a positioning narrow second recessed groove 33b formed in the side of an inner periphery. Meanwhile, a positioning pin 34 axially engaged with the second recessed groove is formed on the outer periphery of a rear plate 13 in the vicinity of the lock hole 31. Thereby, the lock piston 30 and rock hole 31 are certainly positioned and also the rotational balance of the whole housing 5 is adjusted by the recessed portion formed into a stepped groove shape.
