<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a spatial light modulator wherein a light modulating element constituting a pixel can perform grayscale display even independently. <P>SOLUTION: In a magneto-optical spatial light modulator 10 for controlling modulation of light by magneto-optical effects, each of pixels 20 constituting the spatial light modulator 10 includes a light modulating element 13, and the light modulating element 13 is smaller in size than the pixel 20, and the top surface and bottom surface of the light modulating element 13 have areas equal to or larger than the area of a circle having a diameter of 100 nm, and the light modulating element 13 takes a single-magnetic domain state or a multi-magnetic domain state as a magnetic domain state in accordance with the magnitude of a current flowing in the light modulating element 13 and assigns the single-magnetic domain state and the multi-magnetic domain state to gradation of light. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2011,JPO&INPIT |
