<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress noise and vibrations during intermediate dewatering; to save energy; and to improve a laundry rinsing performance. <P>SOLUTION: In a rinsing process, rinsing is performed for two or more times, and intermediate dewatering is performed before rinsing. In the intermediate dewatering, a rotary drum 1 is rotated at a plurality of different steady speeds of rotation and the highest speed of rotation set higher than the plurality of steady speeds of rotation, and the time of driving the rotary drum at the highest speed of rotation is set to be shorter than the sum of the time of driving it at the plurality of steady speed of rotations.
