PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a battery separator with superior oxidation resistance and, moreover, with an electrode having adhesion, as well as a battery using such a separator. SOLUTION: For the battery separator containing a porous base material and a layer of a crosslinked polymer carried on at least one of its surfaces, the crosslinked polymer is to be one obtained by reaction of (a) a reactive polymer having a reactive group containing active hydrogen in a molecule, and (b) a terminal isocyanate group polyester urethane prepolymer.
