PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus which detects a failure of a driving state of each of photoreceptor drums by simple structure. SOLUTION: A plurality of patch images P1-P4 corresponding to each of the photoreceptor drums are formed into a non-image formation area R21 on an intermediate transfer belt 5 for each passage of a preset detection period, and presence/absence of each of the patch images P1-P4 on the intermediate transfer belt 5 is detected. Then, it is detected whether the driving state of each of the photoreceptor drums is abnormal according to the detection results. COPYRIGHT: (C)2011,JPO&INPIT
