PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the serious problem that results in sticking and cutting of an ink ribbon by printing a coloring matter layer after overcoating when a print processing of a thermal sublimation type printer is performed. SOLUTION: A printing system is characterized in that a method for detecting a head marker of the thermal sublimation ink ribbon having a detecting marker for detecting the head on each ribbon arranged in facial order includes: a detecting means for detecting the head marker of the thermal sublimation ink ribbon; a measuring means for measuring the passing time on detecting the head marker of the thermal sublimation ink ribbon detected by the detecting means; a calculating means for estimating and calculating time needed for detecting the next color thermal sublimation ink from the passing time measured by the measuring means; a determining means for determining that detection of the head of the next thermal sublimation ink ribbon is failed when the head of the next color thermal sublimation ink can not be detected within the calculated time; and a controlling means for controlling the following printing processing by the determined result of the determining means.
